Ley appointed to Environment portfolio

Sussan Ley will take the reins as Minister for the Environment in a freshly reshuffled Federal Government Cabinet, with Prime Minister Scott Morrison saying her tenure will see her focus on local outcomes and waste reduction.

“Sussan Ley will return to Cabinet as Minister for the Environment with a focus on practical and local environmental outcomes as well as waste reduction and recycling, assisted by Trevor Evans,” Mr Morrison said in a statement.

Angus Taylor will continue to serve as Minister for Energy, with an expanded remit to take on emissions reductions in a bid to meet the country’s 2030 emissions reduction targets.

Warren Entsch will take on the role of Special Envoy for the Great Barrier Reef.

Mr Entsch accepted the position, saying that his primary concern in his new role will be to push for dramatic reduction of plastic pollution in the area.
