International leaders from across the International Chamber of Commerce and convened in Nairobi to further advance the organisation’s Global Pact for the Environment.
Speaking from the Kenyan capital, ICC’s Director of Inclusive and Green Growth, Majda Dabaghi, said that the meeting had seen productive movement to establishing a new pathway to strengthen international environmental governance.
“Constructive business engagement will be crucial to the success of any future outcome, and ICC expresses its appreciation to Member States for their inclusive approach throughout this process. We believe that a well-designed Global Pact could help deliver greater certainty and clarity for companies and we will continue to engage with governments to this end,” Ms Dabaghi said.
Ahead of the Nairobi talks, ICC Secretary-General John W.H. Denton AO wrote an open letter to environment ministers urging them to take “bold and decisive” action for the environment through the Global Pact process.
