Companies launch circular supply shopping platform

A coalition of some of the world’s consumer retail companies have announced the formation of a new shopping platform aimed at removing single use plastic items from the food chain.

Announced at the World Economic Forum earlier this month, Loop is pitched as a platform to allow customers to sustainably purchase and use food and consumer items in a “customized, brand-specific durable packaging that is collected, cleaned, refilled and reused”.

The platform will see customers order their products on the online Loop platform, and then have the product delivered, picked up after use and recycled or reused for next usage.

The coalition of companies say that the platform was designed in response to a broad commitment to a circular supply chain.

“The aim was to offer a zero-waste option for the world’s most popular consumer products while maintaining affordability, improving convenience and returning used disposable or durable items to a circular life cycle either through reuse or recycling,” the coalition said in its launch announcement.
