Macron blasts climate inaction at General Assembly
September 26, 2018
French President Emmanuel Macron has offered a fiery rebuke to climate inaction in his speech to the United Nations General Assembly earlier this week.
In his address, the French President said that no new trade deals should be struck with countries that fail in their 2015 Paris climate treaty obligations.
“Even those who may deny climate change are suffering the consequences just like everyone else,” Mr Macron said in his address
“In refusing collective action, certain individuals only make themselves more vulnerable.”
At a news conference shortly after his speech, Mr Macron elaborated on his earlier comments, saying that France would not be opposed to signing industry accords with countries that fail in their obligations, but strongly ruled out free trade deals.
