Dr Cathy Wilkinson has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA), replacing former CEO, Nial Finegan, who held the position for the past four years
Dr Wilkinson has worked with EPA since 2015, and previously held senior leadership roles in the planning, water and environment portfolios for various Victorian Government departments. She has been a member of Ministerial Advisory Committees, and has provided environmental leadership for a range of high profile international organisations, including the Stockholm Resilience Centre.
Cheryl Batagol, EPA Chairperson said Dr Wilkinson’s experience “will be invaluable as we continue our transformation process.”
EPA is currently overhauling its systems, services and processes to support implementation of the Environment Protection Act 2017 and Environment Protection Amendment Bill 2018 in 2020.
The legislation will give the EPA enhanced powers and tools to prevent risks to the environment and human health, as well as the ability to issue stronger sanctions and penalties which hold environmental polluters to account. It transforms environmental protection laws to focus on prevention.
