NSW container deposit scheme collects 100 million containers in 3 months

The NSW Environment Protection Authority has reported that over 100 million drink containers have been returned for refunds under the NSW Container Deposit Scheme, Return and Earn, since the scheme started 1 December 2017.

There are now over 400 collection points across the state, including reverse vending machines, over-the-counter collection points, automated depots and donation stations where the refund of 10 cents per container goes to a nominated charity.

NSW joins the Northern Territory and South Australia which already have container deposit schemes. Queensland’s container refund scheme will commence on 1 July 2018 and Western Australia’s scheme is expected to start on 1 January 2019.
